Lessons From a Child:  Guidance

I was watching a very young child walking with mom and dad, and it was obvious he was just learning to walk.  Mom was leading and dad was bringing up the rear, but what was most interesting to me was that the child was going every which way, yet dad was patiently redirecting the child to go where he should be going. There was no asking for help by the child, and I am sure he did not even know what a question was or where he was going.

I can see a non-Christian as being in that same situation. The non-Christian doesn't even know that he/she is going in the wrong direction and may not even know where they want to go, or how to get there. God will guide them to the place that they are really needing to go if they are willing to be directed. They don't even have to ask.

Many of us have seen God do this in our own lives. There may have been times where we thought we wanted nothing to do with God, or thought we were doing just fine on our own, and yet He patiently guided us to the place where we really wanted to be even though we didn't even know it.

Both the young Christian and the mature Christian know that all they have to do is ask and they will be guided by their Father. But even then, many of us think we know what is best for "me" and so even after we ask for guidance we go off and try to get there on our own. Yet God still patiently works to guide us back to the place where we asked Him to take us in the first place.

I wish I could be more like the little one who has no idea how to get where he is going but totally relies on his Father.

Lord, please help me to let you guide me. And when I ask for your help, please MAKE me go where I NEED to go, not just where I ask to go. I know that You have given me the ability to choose my own path, so Lord, I choose to let YOU choose for me. Help me to totally trust YOU!
