The Gospel

Have you ever gotten really good news? Maybe your team won a championship, you got an awesome gift, or something you were worried about turned out just fine. That kind of news makes you smile and brings joy.
Now imagine hearing news so good, so powerful, it could change your life forever. That’s what the Gospel is. The word Gospel means 'Good News'. It’s the story of how deeply God loves you, how He chose to die rather than live without you, and how He made a way to save you.
Let’s explore what the Gospel really means.
1. God Made You and Loves You
God is the Creator of everything. He made the world, the animals, the stars—and He made you. You were created on purpose and for a purpose.
Genesis 1:27 – “So God created human beings in His own image.”
He made you to get to know Him, love Him, and live with Him forever. You are valuable because He made you and loves you more than you can imagine.
Question: Why does it matter that God made you?
Answer:
✅ Because it means my life has purpose and value.
✅ Because it means I’m not an accident
✅ Because it means I was created to get know and love God.
2. Something Went Wrong
Even though God gave people everything they needed, the first humans disobeyed Him. That choice brought sin into the world. Sin is anything we think, say, or do that goes against God.
1 John 3:4 – “Sin is the transgression of the law.”
(In other words, sin is breaking God’s law—choosing our way instead of His.)
Romans 3:23 – “Everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.”
Sin broke our relationship with God. It brings guilt, hurt, and death. And no matter how “good” we try to be, we can’t fix it on our own.
Question: What is sin, and why is it a problem?
Answer:
✅ Sin is breaking God’s law.
✅ Sin separates us from God
✅ Sin brings brokenness into our lives and into the world.
✅ Sin kills anything and everything.
3. God Sent Jesus to Save Us
God didn’t leave us stuck in our sin. He sent His Son, Jesus, to save us. Jesus lived a perfect life, healed the hurting, and then took the punishment for our sins by dying on the cross.
John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.”
But the story doesn’t end there—Jesus rose from the dead! He beat sin and death so we can choose to live again.
Question: What did Jesus do for you?
Answer:
✅ He died so that I will not have to
✅ He rose again so I could be forgiven
✅ He offered me eternal life
4. What Should We Do?
The Gospel is a gift, but like any gift, you have to receive it. Jesus invites us to:
Repent – Turn away from sin.
Believe – Trust that Jesus died and rose again for you.
Follow Him (Obey Him) – Let Him lead your life and do what He says.
Mark 1:15 – “Repent and believe the good news!”
Question: How do you respond to the Gospel?
Answer:
✅ By repenting of my sins
✅ By believing in Jesus
✅ By choosing to follow (obey) Him with my life
5. Do Good Works Save Us?
Many people think being good is enough. But the Bible teaches that we can’t earn salvation—it’s a gift from God.
Ephesians 2:8–9 – “God saved you by His grace when you believed… it is a gift from God.”
Obeying God is important, but it doesn’t save us. It does show, though, that our hearts have been changed and that we truly love Him.
John 14:15 – “If you love Me, obey My commandments.”
Question: Do our actions save us?
Answer:
✅ NO
6. What Happens Next?
When you trust Jesus:
You are forgiven.
You become a child of God.
You receive the Holy Spirit.
You are promised eternal life.
Your life will change.
2 Corinthians 5:17 – “Anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”
And there’s more: Jesus will return one day to make everything right. No more pain, sadness, or death—just a happy, joyous life with Him forever.
Revelation 21:4 – “He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain.”
Question: What 4 things does Jesus promise to those who believe?
Answer:
✅ Forgiveness
✅ A new life
✅ The Holy Spirit
✅ Eternal life with Him
7. Will You Accept This Good News?
The Gospel is more than a story. It’s God’s invitation to you. He wants to save you, forgive you, and walk with you forever.
If you’re ready, you can pray something like this:
“Dear Jesus, I know I’ve sinned and I need You. Thank You for loving me and dying for me. I believe You rose again. Please forgive me, change my heart, and help me follow You every day. I want to live for You. – Amen”
The One Sentence Gospel:
"God made you, sin wants to kill you, but Jesus came to save you—and if you trust Him, He will change you and you will live with Him forever."
